A few weeks ago, The Style Spy contacted me and asked if I would be willing to be featured as "Girl of the Week" - I was more than happy to oblige! The post went live this past Friday, and is currently featured on the front page of their website. Swing by and have a gander! It was such fun thinking of answers to their interview questions - I hope you'll enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them. Many thanks to Nicole at The Style Spy for reaching out to me and making this post possible!
Here's a closer look at the outfit I chose to wear for that photo:
I'm back! The long hiatus was unexpected and due to many factors, but I am determined to start posting again. I hope you all haven't wandered too far off!

I had the pleasure of helping out my good friends over at Tunezy with some event coverage at the David Choi x Clara C concert here in Vancouver! I've seen both artists live multiple times, but each of their shows just keeps getting better and better. Clara is such a musical genius (is there a single instrument out there she can't play?), and David's tunes just make your heart feel good. My new friend Alice and I were lucky enough to hang out with the band backstage and got to know them a bit - they're such fun people!

P. S. I've got some exciting news coming in the next few weeks. Stay tuned!

The Boy was here visiting not too long ago, and we spent a day downtown. I had the perfect walking shoes on, and a big scarf to keep me warm!

For our two-year anniversary, The Boy and I went to The Happiest Place on Earth - Disneyland! It certainly is my happiest place on Earth. If I actually lived in California, there's no doubt I'd buy a pass so I could go whenever I want! I finally acquired my very own pair of mouse ears, which now hang on the wall above my bed, waiting for the next visit to Disneyland (or Disneyworld!).

I love everything about the park - the food, the hustle and bustle, the shops, the rides... you name it! The Tower of Terror is by far my favourite ride. It seriously never gets old. That feeling where your stomach is in your throat gets me every time!

As for the outfit, I thought I'd wear something happy for the occasion. This skirt always makes me think of warm summer days and good times!
Diana Chowhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17720590164068787803noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3285497243200751186.post-77197652063590891852012-03-09T10:35:00.003-08:002020-04-10T02:56:11.046-07:00FOODIE FRIDAY: PARK CHOW

Park Chow
1240 9th Avenue
San Francisco, CA 94122
(415) 665-9912
@ParkChow

After only two visits, this restaurant has easily become one of my favourites in SF! Any restaurant that serves my favourite dish of steamed mussels in a white wine and garlic broth is great in my books. Definitely helped that all the other dishes I've tried so far have been delicious! The prosciutto pizza was pretty amazing - they totally didn't hold back on the prosciutto, so it was nice and meaty... just how I like my pizzas! A very popular dish at Park Chow is the Smiling Noodles (photo #3 above). It's the perfect combination of Thai tanginess with a pinch of curry spice.

Not only is the food delicious, but it's conveniently located right by the Golden Gate Park in Sunset! Eat to your heart's (or belly's!) content and then walk it off with a stroll through the park. Done deal.

Diana Chowhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17720590164068787803noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3285497243200751186.post-2711365027249502422012-03-07T09:57:00.001-08:002020-04-10T02:56:09.544-07:00NOT LEOPARD? One of my go-to comfy outfits: an oversized knit sweater, boyfriend jeans, and a pair of flats/loafers. I looked at many leopard-print shoes before I decided on this Steve Madden pair - the colours and patterns varied from shoe to shoe, but I loved this combination the most. Whenever I wear these shoes, I go with a more understated outfit so it looks cleaner and draws more attention to the awesome pattern!
P.S. I recently started using the great addiction that is Pinterest! As if I needed another form of social media to keep track of. It's just a great and simple way to share tastes and ideas. Follow my pins if you'd like - just click the button below!
On my trip, I couldn't resist finding another great brunch spot in Berkeley! The wait and service at Cafe M took a little long, but the food was delicious. I must say, their potatoes are some of the best I've ever had! Crunchy edges, soft middles, and seasoned to perfection. My only criticism is that the bacon was a little too crunchy for my liking... I like bacon where I can chew and taste the bacon juice instead of eating it like a chip. Overall, I'd go back to try some of their other brunch selections... they had so many that I just defaulted to the comfort of classics. I'd rec this place if you enjoy brunch spots with good lighting, large selections, and have a hankering for potatoes!Diana Chowhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17720590164068787803noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3285497243200751186.post-73075126301864624842012-02-28T10:45:00.000-08:002020-04-10T02:56:10.952-07:00HOME TIME

WILFRED SCARF, OLD NAVY DENIM JACKET, BRANDY & MELVILLE SWEATER, T. Check out some of their products below:

SOURCE: Helloberry

Aren't they awesome? Head on over to their Etsy page to see more! I haven't purchased any yet, but you can be sure I'll be ordering one (or ten) soon. Better act fast - I literally refreshed the page within 20 minutes, and the black/gold bracelet (first photo above) was already sold out! I'm going to have to wait for that one to come back. Be sure to check out their Twitter page as well. I swear I'm not an alcoholic! Back in November, The Boy and I went on a weekend trip to Napa Valley with his parents. I'm not usually one for wine, but it was a really nice way to relax and get away for a while. Away from the city, the air seemed fresher and we really got to take in some nature for a change. I learned that I prefer white wines to reds, and the fruitier the better!

My favourite part of this outfit is the boots! I found them at H&M in San Francisco - love the small, comfortable heel, and the perfect amount of distressed details!

Diana Chowhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17720590164068787803noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3285497243200751186.post-84713367832545302892012-01-19T14:37:00.000-08:002020-04-10T02:56:11.420-07:00THE LITTLE THINGS

COMMUNITY PARKA, J. The weather was warmer than usual, but this was taken on a particularly chilly and windy day - hence my face in the last photo. When packing for the trip, I almost grabbed my peacoat instead of my parka, thinking it was going to be warm - good thing I brought the warmer jacket! This parka from Aritzia has definitely gotten me through some pretty cold days in Canada!

Warm as the parka may be, the star of this post is definitely this top I picked up on sale at Madewell on 5th Ave.! I love the contrast of the comfy sweatshirt material with the fancier beaded neckline. Another favourite detail of mine is the tiny jewel in the middle of the buttons of my J. Crew cardigan. More goodies - these simple black flats (love the cut of these shoes) were such a steal - on sale for $15 at Urban Outfitters! I also marched all around SoHo on a mission to find red pants. Zara had a great selection of red pants, but none in my size! When night came around, I finally came across a location that had ONE pair of red pants in my size. It was destiny. It's really all about the little things.

Diana Chowhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17720590164068787803noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3285497243200751186.post-72226438592602396792012-01-16T07:59:00.000-08:002020-04-10T02:56:10.859-07:00ON THE HUNT

MADEWELL NECKLACE + TOP, J. I am currently going through a transition period, and the past few months involved lots of moving around. I'm now back in Canada - in Toronto at the moment, but will be in Vancouver this coming Saturday.

I wanted to dedicate this post to the topic of dressing for job interviews or the office. I had an interview last week, and found myself wondering what would be appropriate to wear. From what I learned, it's important to learn the culture of the office you're interviewing for (or already work at). Some are very conservative and formal, where others allow for a more creative wardrobe.

When in doubt, neutrals are always a good idea! Blacks, beiges, nudes, whites - these are all great colour choices for office attire. I threw in a chunky, fun necklace to give the outfit a little more character.

A tip for girls with short legs like me: sometimes, we buy trousers and they are full pant length even though they're supposed to hit around the ankle. Boo! When that happens, try to wear a shoe with a comfortable heel instead of flats - it'll elongate your legs and pick up the pant from the floor! A cuffed trouser can also help!

It's a new year with new prospects - good luck to all who are starting something new in 2012!

Diana Chowhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17720590164068787803noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3285497243200751186.post-78920723785408504092011-11-11T10:59:00.001-08:002020-04-10T02:56:11.139-07:00FOODIE FRIDAYS: CUPS
Cups
7857 Girard Ave.
La Jolla, CA 92037
(858) 459-CUPS
Twitter: @CupsLJ

It's about time I paid tribute to my favourite cupcake shop of all time - Cups! They are the one and only Green Certified® bakery in San Diego, and in my opinion, the one with the best selection. Their cupcake flavours vary by day of the week, so every Monday has a certain set of flavours, every Tuesday has its own set, and so on. The best part is that the cupcakes come in mini sizes too, so you can buy a few to sample flavours!

My personal favourite (one that I have not been able to find anywhere else)? The Brûlée-J - a crème brûleé cupcake (pictured on the right above) that has a delicious and very real crème brûleé top - yes, including the burnt sugar - with a fluffy cake bottom. TO DIE FOR. Trust me, if you're in SD and have a hankering for cupcakes... this is the place to go. Wanna know a secret? I like these even better than Sprinkles cupcakes. Shh, don't tell.

Darn, I just missed 11/11/11, 11:11 by a few minutes. All jokes aside, today is a day that we remember those who fought for our freedom. I'll be remembering both Canadian and American troops. Over 600 celebrities, guests, filmmakers, sponsors, partners, and friends came together to recognize the winning films in this year's festival. Also present was Nancy Kwan, the pioneer of Asian American women in Hollywood, who was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

My job that night was to run the red carpet - it was my first experience with working the red carpet, but it was so much fun! I encountered some really incredible people in the past six months, and I will not soon forget them!

Diana Chowhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17720590164068787803noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3285497243200751186.post-24703796962003469802011-11-04T17:04:00.000-07:002020-04-10T02:56:09.263-07:00FOODIE FRIDAY: AROMA COFFEE & TEA COMPANY

Aroma Coffee & Tea Company
4360 Tujunga Ave.
Studio City, CA 91604
(818) 508-0677

I noticed that I've covered brunch spots in pretty much every major city in California except for LA - enter Aroma Coffee & Tea Company, a very quaint cafe in Studio City. It had a very vintage, homey feel to it - kind of like having brunch in the comfort of your own backyard. I usually never go for the pancakey, french toasty, doughy kind of brunch foods, but on that day, I was feeling for some french toast. I was pleasantly surprised by the light texture of it, and the fruits were definitely a plus! As tasty as it was, the portions were huge - I couldn't finish all of it!

This is the place to go if you're looking for the full brunch experience!Diana Chowhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17720590164068787803noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3285497243200751186.post-54295896950336332742011-11-03T10:39:00.001-07:002020-04-10T02:56:10.577-07:00NEW YORK, NEW YORK
COMMUNITY HEMP PARKA, WILFRED FAUX LEATHER LEGGINGS, STEVE MADDEN BOOTS, MARC BY MARC JACOBS BAG

With Halloween now over, I've already seen lots of stores putting up Christmas decorations! Macy's has been totally decked out in holiday cheer. It's actually so strange for me to be seeing Christmas decor in Southern California... as much as I love the sun here, it just doesn't feel right to have Christmas AND warm weather - it's always been one or the other in Toronto!

These photos are actually from last year's trip to NYC - for the past two years, I've been in NYC every holiday season to visit The Boy and his family. I don't really know what it is, but there's always something magical about being in NYC for the holidays... all the city lights, the Christmas store displays, the skating rinks, people milling about... somehow, it just feels right. It doesn't hurt that NYC winters aren't as cold as Toronto ones!

I'm currently in the midst of planning my winter travel route... if all goes well, I'll be flying from Vancouver > Toronto > NYC > Vancouver. Located in beautiful downtown La Jolla, they have the best assortment of sandwiches anyone could ask for! Each sandwich (which can also be made as a salad or on a plate with rice) is made fresh, and the fish is lightly marinated by different flavours, depending on what type of fish you order. Marinades include lemon butter, olive oil and garlic, teriyaki, among others. They also carry really fresh oysters and make some amazing cioppino if you're looking for something to warm you up! Another great thing about this place is that they carry sushi-grade fish - I don't know too many places that do!

Seating is very limited, but there are benches outside for you to enjoy your meal. Or you could get it to go and head down to La Jolla Cove to eat your sandwich by the water!
Diana Chowhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17720590164068787803noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3285497243200751186.post-16534326006038158672011-10-26T15:49:00.000-07:002020-04-10T02:56:09.122-07:00SDAFF x MAHAL STYLE x DEESVIE

This year at SDAFF, we were lucky to collaborate with the awesome team at Mahal Style, who graciously offered to do some pre-festival coverage as well as some red carpet coverage on the night of our Awards Gala Dinner! They interviewed a handful of people in the local San Diego area prior to the festival to create some buzz about the events to come. When they asked me to be one of the interviewees, I was nervous - I'd never done an interview like this before, but I'm really glad that I did it!

Everyone should head over to Mahal Style to check out what they're all about - an amazing community of fashion lovers, arts + culture awareness, and all about loving the skin you're in! Oddly enough, I've never actually worn it as a dress.

I had the craziest weekend working the San Diego Asian Film Festival - from opening night to the awards gala dinner, it was tough work but also very rewarding. Working the red carpet is a hectic time, but you get to learn that celebrities are real people, too. I also had the privilege of planning last night's screening afterparty for "Surrogate Valentine", our centerpiece film. It was a great success, and once again, so amazing to watch everything come together after all that planning.

It appears my weekend was so crazy that I didn't even get a chance to do a Foodie Friday post!
